Brennauer wins Women’s Tour title

Germany’s Lisa Brennauer won the Women’s Tour after finishing fourth in the final stage taken by Hannah Barnes.

British rider Barnes won a sprint finish in Hemel Hempstead ahead of Belgium’s Jolien D’hoore and Italian Simona Frapporti.

D’hoore was Brennauer’s closest general classification rival but finished six seconds down on the Velocio-SRAM rider.

Brennauer said: “This is one of the biggest events on the women’s calendar, so this victory means a lot to me.”

Barnes said: “This stage win was the biggest aim of the year, so I’m happy to have pulled it off.

“The sprint was crazy – very difficult. I got boxed in at 100m to go but thankfully got free.”
