Geraint Thomas drops to third in Alps race

Welsh cyclist Geraint Thomas finished fifth in the second stage of the Tour of the Alps in Austria.

The Team Sky rider has dropped to third in the general classification after finishing an impressive second in yesterday’s opening day.

Snowfall forced the second day of racing to be shortened by 40km to 140km.

Thomas is three seconds behind leader Thibaut Pinot and second placed Michel Scarponi with three days remaining.
