King wins Milk Race in Nottingham

Wiggle Honda’s Dani King has won the inaugural elite women’s Milk Race title.

The 22-year-old from Southampton secured victory on the streets of Nottingham as the overall event returned after a break of 20 years.


who won Team Pursuit gold at the 2012 Olympics,

won a timed race on the 1.2km circuit ahead of team-mates Amy Roberts and Elinor Barker.

Irish rider Felix English won the men’s race ahead of Alex Blain and Ed Clancy.

King, who joined the women’s road team

backed by Sir Bradley Wiggins

last November, won the race in emphatic style as she powered away from the lead group at the midway point and never looked like being caught.

She tweeted: “Great to win @themilkraceuk today! Incredible crowds…thanks for all the support and to my @WiggleHonda team mates!”

The original Milk Race, which ran between 1958 and 1993, was a multi-stage race and one of the many guises of what is now the Tour of Britain.
