Meares will defend gold in Rio

Olympic champion Australian Anna Meares, who

beat Victoria Pendleton to sprint gold in London,

will defend her title at the 2016 Olympics in Rio.

Meares, 29, who also won bronze in the team sprint, intends to carry on, despite turning 33 by the time Rio comes around.

She said: “I’m really excited because I wanted to go through to Rio.

“I still have that desire, I still have that passion, and while that’s still there I want to follow up on it.”

Meares also has a silver from the 2008 Olympics, plus a gold and bronze from 2004.
