Great Britain’s Shanaze Reade suffered a disappointing day in the BMX World Championships – finishing a lowly eighth in the semi-final in Copenhagen.

The London 2012 Olympic hopeful was fastest in Friday’s time trial despite having initially withdrawn from the competition with a wrist injury.

But the defending world champion “slipped a pedal at the start gate” and could only manage eighth in her semi.

Colombian Mariana Pajon won the world title having led from the start.

After Denmark, the three-time world champion is due to compete in the BMX 2012 test event at the Olympic Park in Stratford on 19 and 20 August.

As well as competing at the Olympics next year, Reade is also bidding to earn a place in the GB track cycling team for the team sprint after winning two world titles with Victoria Pendleton in 2007 and 2008.
