Sagan sprints to third stage win

Slovakian Peter Sagan beat Andre Greipel in a sprint finish into Metz to claim his third stage win of this year’s Tour de France.

The Liquigas rider powered home in the final 50m of stage six despite the Lotto team giving Greipel the chance of a third straight stage victory.

But the German was feeling the effects of being caught in two of the day’s three crashes and injuring his elbow.

Fabian Cancellara still holds the yellow jersey ahead of Bradley Wiggins.

Last year’s winner Cadel Evans (14th) and Briton Wiggins (21st) both stayed out of trouble and came home four seconds behind the sprinters.

Frank Schleck was the biggest loser among the overall contenders, while Team Sky’s Edvald Boassen Hagen dropped out of the top six after getting caught behind a crash.
