VIDEO: Britain’s world road race champions

BBC Sport looks back at Britain’s two world road race champions as Chris Froome bids to join them by winning in Florence on Sunday.

Tommy Simpson broke away from the field 40 miles from the finish with Rudi Altig, before beating the German in a sprint to win Britain’s first title in 1965.

Cavendish took advantage of a superb ride by the eight-man British team and executed a masterful finish to take the 2011 title.
